John Keats is part of the Communitas Education Trust, which operates three schools in South East London.
As a new school, we welcomed our first pupils into the Reception class in September 2018 and aim to grow the school with a two forms of entry each year.
This means that, as a parent of a child entering the school, you’ll have the chance to help shape the education of young people in your area for years to come.
Being part of the Trust gives our school a lot of advantages. Communitas believes in allowing staff, governors and parents to develop their school’s own identity to suit the local community. At the same time, the schools work together to share their best ideas and successes, so they can benefit the largest possible number of children.
At John Keates, we’re already seeing the benefit of this, with visits from pupils at our sister school, John Donne Primary School in Peckham. They act as ‘buddies’ to our Reception pupils, helping them with reading and getting them used to being around other children.
The Trust also encourages schools to become a focus point for the local community and to build strong partnerships with community groups. At John Keates, this has led to a number of art and literature activities for children to take part in and we are looking forward to many more in the future.
Nick Tildesley, our headteacher, was previously the head at John Donne and led it successfully from an OfSTED grade of ‘Requires improvement’ to ‘Outstanding’. The school was judged as being in the top 1% of schools nationally for pupil progress.
We are already developing strong links with John Donne School, as well as other local schools. This gives equal opportunities for all our pupils to enjoy a variety of different experiences, so they can develop into well-rounded individuals.
