Communitas Education Trust proposes the establishment of a new Primary Free School, John Keats Primary School on Rotherhithe New Road, SE16 3DH. This school will be led and managed by the leadership and Trust board who currently manage John Donne Primary in Peckham.

John Donne Primary, graded outstanding by ofsted, is situated in the heart of Peckham, South London. It serves a vibrant and diverse community with high levels of aspiration. Pupils achieve better than the national and local average in all subjects in Year 6. In 2015 it was placed in the top 500 primary schools for achievement and top 1% for progress, with an average level of 5C in the KS2 SATS tests.

    Ofsted stated in 2011:

John Donne Primary is an outstanding school which enables pupils from diverse backgrounds to make rapid progress in acquiring basic skills and knowledge, while at the same time equipping them with an impressive range of personal qualities. As a result, pupils leave school as confident and often articulate young citizens, well prepared for the next phase of their education. All this takes place within a very caring, supportive environment, with the school typically being described by parents and carers as a ‘patient, loving and dynamic place,’ and ‘a beacon of light in our community.

The Trust wishes to increase and extend provision so that the high levels already achieved by children at John Donne Primary are available through the John Keats Primary School. It will be a new, outstanding primary school for children in the local community which will fulfil their educational aspirations and meet their pastoral needs. The co-educational school will be two forms of entry from Reception through to Year 6, providing 60 places in each year group and a nursery providing places for 3-4 year olds.

The new school will be part of the Communitas Education Trust. The schools in the Trust will be linked through their shared governance, vision, ethos, structures, services and pedagogy. Staff at the new school will work closely with existing leadership and staff at John Donne School in order to ensure that children are prepared for their transition from primary to secondary school and for the next stage in their education. We are confident that we can replicate our achievements, founding the new school on the solid educational and pedagogical principles that have made John Donne Primary successful.
